Charoite is a rare crystal, and a lot of what's sold is not genuine. My first thought when I opened this was that it looked nothing like the picture. The pendant is mostly surrounding material, and the charoite is almost black, rather than the purple color I had been expecting. However, after wearing it for a couple days, I know this is real charoite, and can vouch for there being enough there to bring it's properties into your life. A good piece for someone starting with this crystal.
